On 11th March 1997, SoftQuad announced its support of a broad industry initiative to entrench eXtensible Markup Language (XML) in Web-based Knowledge Publishing tools.
The XML Working Group includes members from SoftQuad, Adobe, IBM, HP, Microsoft, Lockheed Martin, NCSA, Novell, Sun, Boston University, Oxford University and the Universities of Illinois and Waterloo.
On 18th February 1997, SoftQuad International introduced an enhanced version of HoTMetaL PRO 3.0, that incorporates site management and other new features. The update is free to registered HoTMetaL PRO 3.0 users. The update provides the Web master with additional power tools, including one of the first Cascading Style Sheet editing tools, batch conversion capabilities and new templates, plus a free copy of the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.
