Introduction

Mathematical Markup Language (MathML), produced by the W3C HTML Math Working Group, is an XML application for describing mathematical expression structure and content. The goal of MathML is to enable mathematics to be served, received and processed on the Web.

This paper is based on the MathML working draft (http://www.w3.org/pub/WWW/TR/WD-math) of which the author is a Principal Writer. This will be published as a W3C Proposed Recommendation in January 1998.
